We are delighted to be partnering with the Greater Manchester Wellbeing Series. Their Founder and CEO, Nick Rusling will be joining our CEO, Mark Rix, for a fireside chat at our Manchester Summit on Thursday 17th September.
We caught up with Nick to see how he’s feeling in the run up to the summit:
Hi Nick, we are thrilled that you are joining us at the Wellbeing at Work Summit Manchester in September. Our first and most important question is, how are you doing today?
Thank you – 5/10 for me today as we’ve had some tough family stuff happening behind the scenes. I find cracking on with work helps as I love what I do, but it’s going to take a bit of time for the family to regroup. We will get there though which is positive.
As a leader based in the region, what are the main challenges you are facing when it comes to employee wellbeing and mental health?
I’d say we are a small team and often work separately to knowing what’s going on in people’s lives isn’t easy to keep track of. I always feel it’s good to know how people are and what might be effecting them behind the scenes – even if we can’t help directly, it’s important to care. Remote working makes this a bit harder.
What strategies have you seen developing over the past 6 months, both internally and externally, that are moving the dial on wellbeing in the workplace?
I’ve been lucky enough to have over 700 meetings with organisations specifically talking about wellbeing at work. Strategies that are moving the dial are mostly around leaders who demonstrate care throughout their culture and have cultural KPIs to reflect this.
Why is employee wellbeing so important to you personally?
Because I am a fan of helping people find their purpose through life and their work. As a result wellbeing is something that cuts across our whole lives, and work can play a negative role if we aren’t careful. Physically and mentally. However, if we get it right, workplace wellbeing can become a supportive backbone to a happy life.
What impact is AI having in your organization and how are you managing that?
It’s cause for fun, optimism and frustration. We are embracing it, but focusing on the human touch throughout.
Other than AI, are there any challenges that you are seeing for the first time and how are you addressing them?
Inclusive wellbeing is a challenge we all face. How can organisations offer tools that everyone can embrace. Not easy – we are addressing this by coming up with a solution through the Greater Manchester Wellbeing Series. Running, walking, wheeling, meditation and mindfulness can be adopted by everyone. And they can bring people together.
