We are delighted that David will be speaking in Calgary this October as part of our Wellbeing at Work Summit Canada. We caught up with him to find out how he’s feeling in the run up to the summit.
Hi David, we are thrilled you will be speaking at our Wellbeing at Work Summit Canada in October. Our first and most important question is, how are you doing today?
I am doing fantastic. Fall is one of my most favourite seasons.
As a leader based in the region, what are the main challenges you are facing when it comes to employee wellbeing?
Two things come to mind: the pace of change in the energy industry and helping our employees understand that they have permission to take care of their own wellbeing first.
What strategies have you seen developing over the past 6 months, both internally and externally, that are moving the dial on wellbeing in the workplace?
We have a few new initiatives on the go. One is a refresh of our wellness dashboard to better understand our current status. The second is a move forward in our mental health strategy to include suicide prevention training for our leaders.
Why is employee wellbeing so important to you personally?
I am passionate about helping people reach their full potential. Our wellbeing is the foundation of being able to perform at our best both personally and professionally.
What are you most looking forward to about the Summit in October?
I always enjoy the networking piece.
Tell us, what is your vision for the future workplace, in terms of engagement, health and wellbeing?
I see a day when we pull back on our access a little bit. We have seen more countries and provinces adopt rights to disconnect. I truly believe this will help with balance and a decrease in burnout.
What areas do you think employers should be focused on over the next 12 months?
Many consulting firms are aligned in the feedback they are receiving from employees regarding financial wellness. I think employers really need to help their employees when it comes to setting personal budgets, making the most of financial programs at work such as share purchase plans and retirement planning.
How has your organization been leading the way?
We are blessed to have support from the very top of our organization and the willingness of our leaders to take calculated risks to improve the wellbeing of our employees.
David will be speaking in Calgary at the Wellbeing at Work Summit Canada which takes place live and in-person in Toronto and Calgary with an additional day of virtual sessions too. Further details on the Summit can be foundĀ here.
