We are delighted that Lisa will be joining our morning Leadership Panel at our Melbourne summit this November where she and her follow panellists will be discussing “Driving Performance in a Changing World: From Wellbeing to Workforce Advantage”. They will exploire: What leadership behaviours and cultural signals sustain wellbeing and performance in hybrid, AI-enabled workplaces? How can wellbeing be embedded as a seamless, data-informed experience across the entire employee lifecycle? How do organisations shift from wellbeing provision to building workforce capability, adaptability, and growth? How can wellbeing be leveraged as a strategic driver of resilience, retention, and innovation in times of rapid change?
We caught up with Lisa to find out how she’s feeling in the runup to the summit:
Hi Lisa, we are thrilled that you are joining us at the Wellbeing at Work Summit Australia in Melbourne this November. Our first and most important question is, how are you doing today?
I’m doing well! We are in a busy period at work as we move into FY27 budgeting, succession planning and engagement survey action planning.
As a leader based in the region, what are the main challenges you are facing when it comes to employee wellbeing and mental health?
I see that organisations are under pressure, like we all are, with rising costs, and are pushing to do more with less. We have been in this cycle for several years now, and I see the ongoing pressure put onto employees to work more efficiently, with broader scope. I see more employees saying no to leadership roles because of this, and I worry about the impact this has on our organisations in the future.
What strategies have you seen developing over the past 6 months, both internally and externally, that are moving the dial on wellbeing in the workplace?
At ISGroup we focus on wellbeing in the field through safety culture. We continually remind our teams that their safety must come first, and ensuring our teams know that if they ask to stop a job because they don’t feel safe, that we will back them, and deal with any ramifications with the client or project team.
Why is employee wellbeing so important to you personally?
If you don’t have health, you don’t have much. It’s only when you have a significant injury, fall badly ill, or suffer with psychological illness, when we realise how much we can take wellness for granted.
What impact is AI having in your organization and how are you managing that?
As a technology-based company, we are leaning in to AI adoption. Across different teams it is used in different ways, with our geospatial team the most advanced, and other areas like HR and HSEQ using simple AI tools to assist with document generation, planning, content review and analysis.
Other than AI, are there any challenges that you are seeing for the first time and how are you addressing them?
In our industry, on some projects, we are seeing a contraction between sell rates and cost rates, to levels not seen before.
What areas do you think employers should be focused on over the next 12 months?
Celebrating success and recognition – it can be easy, when we all get busy, to not to do enough of it.
