
A graduate of SQU and a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK), Hamed established the Memory Clinic at SQUH in 2010 and has played a central role in developing mental-health services, training, and education in Oman. He is an active researcher with numerous publications in the fields of cognitive disorders, mental wellbeing, and public mental health. He supervises research projects for medical students and postgraduate trainees, contributing to the growth of local evidence-based practice. He is widely recognized for his efforts in promoting mental wellbeing across workplaces in both the private and government sectors.
We are delighted that Dr. Hamed will be speaking in Muscat as part of our Wellbeing at Work Summit Middle East in January. We caught up with him to see how he’s feeling in the runup to the event.
Hi Dr. Hamed, we are thrilled that you will be joining us at the Wellbeing at Work Summit Middle East in January. Our first and most important question is, how are you doing today?
I’m doing great, thank you.
What strategies have you seen developing over the past 6 months, both internally and externally, that are moving the dial on wellbeing in the workplace?
More awareness activities, some companies are paying for workers who need professional input.
Why is employee wellbeing so important to you personally?
It is related to my overall well-being, life satisfaction, and creativity at work.
What impact is AI having in your organization and how are you managing that?
I work in health care so not much impact, apart from patients consulting Chatgpt before coming to the clinic.
What areas do you think employers should be focused on over the next 12 months?Â
Developing personal strategies to deal with stress and burnout.
Do you feel that investment in employee wellbeing in the region is increasing or decreasing and is that a direct reflection on HR leaders’ increasing ability to demonstrate effective returns of their strategies to leadership?
It is increasing, but more is needed.
