We are delighted that Meaghan will be speaking in Calagary as part of our Wellbeing at Work Summit Canada in October.
We caught up with her to find out how she’s feeling in the run up to the summit.
Hi Meaghan, we are thrilled you will be speaking at our Wellbeing at Work Summit Canada in October. Our first and most important question is, how are you doing today?
I’m doing very well, thank you!
As a leader based in the region, what are the main challenges you are facing when it comes to employee wellbeing?
Understanding that one size won’t fit all, and balancing that within budgets, along with keeping the need front and centre for other leaders when facing production/output challenges.
What strategies have you seen developing over the past 6 months, both internally and externally, that are moving the dial on wellbeing in the workplace?
We leverage psychological safety as in partnership with physical safety – a lot of work has gone into site safety and workplace safety – something everyone can agree on, so we leverage that to help leaders and staff understand that we hire whole humans (360 degrees) and that what happens outside of work affects you while at work, so having programs to support that balance is not only necessary but legislated.
Why is employee wellbeing so important to you personally?
Wellbeing is the backbone of motivation for output – if we want employees to give their best, to excel, then wellbeing is the only way that this can be achieved.
What are you most looking forward to about the Summit in October?
I’m curious – this will be my first in attendance and I am curious to learn from others and see what’s happening in other businesses.
Tell us, what is your vision for the future workplace, in terms of engagement, health and wellbeing?
Ideally, we would adhere to a common vocabulary when speaking about engagement (belonging) and health & wellbeing (psychological safety, along with physical safety/health), and we would have these as pillars of the business strategy.
What areas do you think employers should be focused on over the next 12 months?
There is a pendulum swing in DEI, which is where health & wellbeing spring up from and are supported by. These extremes should not diminish the work being done for all employees to be provided wellbeing at work.
How has your organization been leading the way?
We’re proud of our budget dollars supporting our wellness programs (we’ve increased our coverage from insurance, provided multiple learning programs, provide monthly wellbeing updates, and offered unique employee experiences), we have an Engagement Manager on staff, and resiliency is one of our five organizational values.
Meaghan will be speaking in Calgary at the Wellbeing at Work Summit Canada which takes place live and in-person in Toronto and Calgary with an additional day of virtual sessions too. Further details on the Summit can be found here.
